Life Skills Arcade Middle school Family and Consumer Sciences, grades 6 to 8
Teacher note

Reviews Lesson 1.17. Reviews Lesson 1.17 (the Where Does It Go sort, the three date phrases, FIFO, and the two-hour rule). Use it the day before the Budget Meal Lab in Lesson 1.20, when leftovers are real, and again as the storage review before the Unit 1 test. Round 1 follows the key: raw ground beef scores in the freezer too, bread scores in the pantry or freezer, and potatoes score on the counter or in the pantry; the fridge is always a miss for potatoes. The two cards most teams get wrong, potatoes and the open salsa, are always in the draw. Grade 6 setting: round 1 uses eight cards (drop raw ground beef, potatoes, the open salsa, and the bag of flour) and round 2 drops the milk and the fridge thermometer questions.

Where Does It Go

A food card appears. Tap the zone it lives in: Refrigerator, Freezer, Pantry, or Counter. Then a temperature, a date phrase, FIFO, or a leftover scenario appears, and you tap the answer from three.
