Reviews Lesson 5.5, Lesson 5.10. Reviews Lesson 5.5 (the thirteen tools in the station kit, their jobs, and where each one lives) and Lesson 5.10 Day 1 (the seven machine parts). Round 1 is the Handout 05.05 Part 2 table as a picture match; every miss shows the job and the home, and the end panel repeats the one sentence of the unit, a needle or a pin is in the pin cushion, in the kit, or in your hand. Round 2 uses the Handout 05.10 diagram as a tap scene, first by job and then by name, so a student who cannot yet read the names can still find the part from what it does. Use round 1 as the Lesson 5.6 do now for anyone who scored under four rules on the 5.5 exit card, and round 2 as the Lesson 5.10 Day 2 opener before the threading demonstration or on Day 3 before the paper drills. The machine on the picture is generic; say out loud that every machine is a little different and the manual at your machine is the authority.

Tool Kit
A tool from the station kit appears. Tap its job from four choices, and the feedback tells you where it lives. Then a sewing machine picture appears, and you tap the part that matches the job or the name.

The ones to study:
Worth knowing by heart:
- A needle or a pin is in the pin cushion, in the kit, or in your hand. There is no fourth place.
- Needle sizes run backwards. A size 5 is a bigger, thicker needle than a size 9.
- Fabric shears cut fabric only, because paper dulls a blade in one cut, and a dull blade makes you push, and pushing is how people get hurt.
- Most dangerous: the needle, because it moves fast and it will go through a finger; and the pedal, because the pedal is what makes the needle move while a hand is in the wrong place.
- The four machine safety rules: 1. Both hands stay to the sides of the needle, never in front of it. Hands guide, they do not push. 2. One foot on the pedal, the other foot flat on the floor, not tucked under you. 3. Switch off or unplug before you change a needle or reach under the needle plate. 4. Hair back, sleeves clear, cords taped down, nothing loose near the wheel.
- The close-down routine: presser foot down, power off, chair in.
- Handout 05.05 Part 2, the tool table: name, job, where it lives
- The six needle rules and the count-out and count-in routine
- Handout 05.10 Part 1, the seven parts, and Part 2, the four rules and the close-down routine
