Life Skills Arcade Middle school Family and Consumer Sciences, grades 6 to 8
Teacher note

Reviews Lesson 6.13, Lesson 6.15. Reviews Lesson 6.13 (the three-step rule, the conversion strip, and the yield check on Day 1; unit price and the three legal swaps on Day 2) and the unit price do now of Lesson 6.15. Every number is from the teacher key of Handout 06.13 and the circular excerpt, so the answers match the sheets students filled in, and every price should be refreshed if the circular changes. Play it as the Day 2 do now of Lesson 6.13 or before the Unit 6 test, which has two calculator items on scaling and unit price. The scaling round hands students the multiplied amount and asks only for the rounding, which is where the mistakes live; the trap item on ounces by weight is in both rounds' feedback. A grade 6 class plays round 1 with the choices and a calculator; the grade 8 stretch is to play without one. This is not Label Detective, which is the Nutrition Facts label; this is the store shelf. Calculators are allowed here, the same as in Lessons 6.13 and 6.15. The game does not need one: every card asks how many packages, and the choices are close enough to count up to.

Round Up

A scaling line appears with the numbers already multiplied. Tap how many packages to buy. Then two prices appear, and you tap which is cheaper per ounce or what the swap saves. A calculator is on screen.
