Life Skills Arcade Middle school Family and Consumer Sciences, grades 6 to 8
Teacher note

This game reviews Lesson 4.10, Reading and Drawing a Floor Plan to Scale, with the principles from Lesson 4.7 and the elements from Lesson 4.6. The room is the described bedroom from Handout 4.10: 11 by 12 feet, a 3-foot door on a short wall with its swing, a 4-foot window centered on the far long wall, a 2 by 5 closet. One square is one foot, the same scale as the cut-out sheet. The game checks three rules from the lessons: nothing sits in the door swing, a path at least 3 feet (36 inches) wide runs from the door to the window, and the bed is not under the window (the rearrange sketch from Lesson 4.6). Then four quick questions: which principle does each described placement use? Use it the day before the bedroom plan in 4.10 Day 2 or as a warm-up for Project 04. Nothing is saved when the page closes.

Room Designer

A bedroom, drawn from above, one square to a foot. Tap a piece, then tap where it goes. Keep the door clear, leave a path 3 feet wide from the door to the window, and keep the bed off the window wall.

How to play

Four pieces must go in: the bed, the desk, the desk chair, and the dresser. Four more are your choice. Every piece placed is 5 points. Then tap Check my room: 10 points for each rule the room passes. Fix what fails and check again; only your best check counts. Then four principle questions at 10 points each.
