Life Skills Arcade Middle school Family and Consumer Sciences, grades 6 to 8
Teacher note

This game reviews Lesson 1.11, Label Detective: reading the Nutrition Facts panel, the 5 and 20 rule, whole-container math, and the five front-of-package tricks. Twelve questions a game, four from each level, drawn from a pool of about forty, so two students rarely get the same game. Use it as the warm-up before the Label Reading Quiz (Assessment 1.3) or on the board with the class voting. Every product is made up; the numbers are internally consistent, so a student can argue an answer from the label. Nothing is saved when the page closes.

Label Detective

The front of the package is an ad. The back is the evidence. Read the label, answer fast. 20 seconds a question.

How to play

A label appears with what the front of the package claims. Tap the right answer. 10 points each, plus 5 for every third correct answer in a row. A miss costs nothing but shows you the line that had the answer. Three levels: read the label, do the math, spot the trick.
