# Vocabulary 07: Launch: Career Readiness and FACS Shark Tank

Unit 7, the capstone. The unit's 45 Tier 3 words across the two topics, with a one-line definition written for a grade 6 to 7 reader and columns for Turkish, Portuguese, and Spanish.

**Translation status: [check with a native speaker].** The Turkish, Portuguese, and Spanish columns are my best working translations and have not been verified by a native speaker. Use them for word banks and picture cards; have a native speaker, a bilingual colleague, or the ENL teacher check the whole table once before it is printed for students. The business words are the ones most likely to differ by country: margin, break-even, and pitch have no single everyday word in every language, and several of them are borrowed from English in ordinary speech anyway. Where a country would normally just say the English word, I put the English in parentheses. **The English term stays on every card,** because students will see the English word on a real job application, a real resume template, a real price sheet, and in the mouth of a judge on pitch day.

Words that appear in more than one sense are marked. "Ask" here is a noun and it means the thing you are requesting, not the verb. "Deck" here means a set of presentation panels, not a deck of cards or a wooden deck. "Task" here means the T in STAR, the job you were given, and it is also an ordinary English word students already know. "Action" here means the A in STAR, the thing you personally did.

Fifteen of these words came out of Sal's own interview lesson at Brentwood, where the vocabulary cards were already translated into Turkish, Portuguese, and Spanish for his students. [Sal: swap in your own cards wherever they read better than these.]

How lessons use this file: each lesson names its own Tier 3 words, and the handout for that lesson carries a word bank pulled from this table in the three languages. The site's Materials page prints this table as picture-ready cards. There is no unit test in this unit, so the card is allowed on every task, every day, including the interview in Lesson 7.5 and the pitch on pitch day. A student holding a vocabulary card while pitching is not a problem; a student who cannot say the word at all is.
